What’s Eating You?

crick.jpgFlowers, chocolates, lingerie. Even the local NPR station is shilling for Valentine's Day. But in case the run-up to Monday has tried your patience, made you crumble under the pressure of picking just the right card, or is simply too maudlin for you, here's a little not-so-nice romance from our friends in the animal kingdom.

In a press release this week out of McMaster University, psychologist Andrew Clark describes just how desperate male crickets are for sex. During sex, the male cricket allows the female cricket to chew off his rear wings and drink the fluid that oozes out of the wounds. That keeps her around just long enough for him to finish. Of course, it's kinda a one-shot (as if were) deal since, without his rear wings, he isn't able to attract another female. Ever.

Of course, it that still hasn't put you off, you still have time to place an emergency order at Good Vibes. A Rabbit Habit for her or a Tunnel of Love for him or some nice Deluxe Door Jam Cuffs for either might just be a fun alternative to the chocolates. What you nibble on is up to you.
