The Good Parts
I cannot believe I missed the 2003 international labia blogathon! Labia Love 2003 was held April 9th and 10th. You'll find a great explanation of why there's a need for a labia blogathon at the kittenblog, written by event founder, Sarah. The short version is that Sarah, through her work with Scarleteen, has seen letter after letter from young women worried about their labia. "What's wrong with them? They're too big. How can I get them fixed? They're weird. I can't look at them." And so on. Coincidentally, just a week before the labia blogathon, there was an article (no longer available online, sorry) in The Ottawa Citizen discussing the growing numbers of women seeking plastic surgery on their labia and vaginas. And those surgeries are not taking place because of labia that are so large as to make sex painful. No, these are women bringing in photos of someone else's vulva and saying, "I want to look like that." Yikes.
(As an aside, there is also a Penis Blog Project. These aren't guys who need to advocate loving penises. No, the intent of this site is to let bloggers reveal other intimate details of themselves — namely, their penises. No, I did not submit anything to this one.)
Anyway, to wrap things up, I absolutely adore labia! And if you own your own, you should love them, too. The labia blogathon was calling them "beautiful strangers." Get to know them. They're wicked cool. So cool, in fact, I think I'll blog this poem about them! Yow!
